Empathy is a crucial social and emotional skill that helps children build positive relationships, understand others’ feelings, and develop kindness. When we first started to know our K3 class, we noticed our students´ energy and how they tried to solve conflicts with their peers.
Teaching empathy at an early age lays the foundation for compassionate and socially responsible individuals, our wonderful teachers decided that our first project could be an ideal time to introduce and nurture empathy, as children at this stage are beginning to understand emotions and social interactions.
Our children had the opportunity to nurture empathy through various activities on their different subjects, such as:
- Reading books that focus on kindness and emotions.
- Role-playing and perspective-taking exercises.
- Modeling empathetic behavior in daily interactions.
- Discussing emotions and how actions impact others.
- Providing opportunities for teamwork and cooperative play.
After several months of practicing and working daily on how to respect and take care of their classmates’ bodies, we noticed a significant modification in our class’ behaviour.
Our children began to have positive social interactions by recognizing emotions and responding with kindness. They learned how to share, take turns, and help others, leading to more meaningful and positive relationships.
We also noticed that most children learned to identify and understand emotions in themselves and others. This skill will help them manage their feelings, express themselves appropriately, and navigate social situations with confidence.

La empatía es una habilidad social y emocional fundamental que ayuda a los niños a construir relaciones positivas, comprender los sentimientos de los demás y desarrollar la empatía. Cuando comenzamos a conocer a nuestra generación de K3, notamos la energía de nuestros estudiantes y la forma en que solían resolver conflictos entre pares.
Enseñar la empatía a una edad temprana sienta las bases para formar individuos compasivos y socialmente responsables. Por ello, nuestras maravillosas maestras decidieron que nuestro primer proyecto sería el momento ideal para introducir y fomentar la empatía, ya que los niños durante esta etapa están comenzando a comprender las emociones y las interacciones sociales.
Nuestros pequeños tuvieron la oportunidad de desarrollar la empatía a través de diversas actividades en sus diferentes materias, tales como:
- Leer libros enfocados en la amabilidad y las emociones.
- Realizar ejercicios de juego de roles y toma de perspectiva.
- Modelar comportamientos empáticos en las interacciones diarias.
- Dialogar sobre las emociones y cómo las acciones afectan a los demás.
- Brindar oportunidades para el trabajo en equipo y el juego cooperativo.
Después de varios meses de práctica y trabajo diario sobre cómo respetar y cuidar el cuerpo de sus compañeros, notamos un cambio significativo en el comportamiento de nuestra generación de Pepri. Nuestros pequeños comenzaron a tener interacciones sociales positivas al reconocer emociones y responder con amabilidad. Aprendieron a compartir, esperar su turno y ayudar a los demás, lo que llevó a relaciones más significativas y positivas.
También observamos que la mayoría de los niños aprendieron a identificar y comprender emociones en sí mismos y en los demás. Esta habilidad les ayudará a manejar sus sentimientos, expresarse adecuadamente y desenvolverse con confianza en situaciones sociales. Este proceso es maravilloso, y nos sentimos muy afortunadas de poder presenciar estos momentos mágicos.
