For a young child, magnets are like magic. How can two things pull towards each other or push away from each other without energy? Well, that is what our 4th-graders were exploring this week.
The students learnt about magnetic fields, how they are created, and how they interact with each other. The students were given a lesson to see how magnetic fields look with different-shaped magnets by using iron filings. They also explored the lab and school, searching for magnetic things.
Finally, the students learnt that our planet creates its own magnetic field, and that is how compasses work. So, the students made their own compasses using materials in the lab.
¿Es magia o son imanes?
Para un niño pequeño, los imanes son como magia. ¿Cómo es posible que dos objetos se atraigan o se repelen sin utilizar energía? Bueno, eso fue justamente lo que nuestros alumnos de 4º grado estuvieron explorando esta semana.
Los estudiantes aprendieron sobre los campos magnéticos, cómo se crean y cómo interactúan entre sí. Tuvieron una actividad en la que pudieron observar cómo se ven los campos magnéticos con imanes de diferentes formas utilizando limaduras de hierro. También exploraron el laboratorio y la escuela en búsqueda de objetos magnéticos.
Finalmente, los estudiantes aprendieron que nuestro planeta genera su propio campo magnético y que así es como funcionan las brújulas. Por ello, construyeron sus propias brújulas utilizando materiales del laboratorio.
